Surface Preparation of Fiber Glass Lining Surface.
Prior to start surface preparation of the tank surface to be lined should be thoroughly cleaned to remove scale,dirt,paint,oil,grease,weld spatters,sharp protrusions,sliver etc.The tank surface should be completely dry and free from any moisture prior to blast cleaning.
Proper ventilation shall be made available on the inside tank to properly maintain suitable weather condition during surface preparation,lining application and curing.
The blasting abrasive used as per client specification.The abrasive shall be dry & fresh and shall not contain any impurities.The abrasive shall not be recycled.
The metal substrate shall be blast cleaned to a visual standard in accordance with SIS 05 59 00 as per specified by the coating manufacturer’s data sheet.The surface profile shall be followed by the coating manufacturer’s data sheet.
The blast cleaned surface shall be checked for presence of chloride as per ISO 8502-6 & 9.If chloride contamination exceeds the limit,surface shall be jet cleaned with potable water,blasted and inspected again until contamination is within acceptable range.
After blasting all dust,abrasive etc.shall be completely removed from the surface to be lined using suitable vacuum cleaner or by compressed air.The compressed air used for cleaning shall be free from water and oil.Adequate separators shall be provided and regularly maintained to get clean air free of traces of oil and water.
Dust embedded on the blast cleaned surface shall not exceed Grade 2 of ISO 8502-03.
Quality of the compressed air shall be checked by Blotter Test Methods.All blasting pots and compressors shall be fitted with efficient moisture traps.
Blasted surfaces shall be primed immediately after obtaining client approval .Blast cleaned surface shall be coated the same day and also prior to any visible rusting,discoloration or any other surface contamination takes place as mentioned in procedure.All the personnel entering the tank after abrasive blasting shall wear shoe covers,sweat bands and lint free gloves.
