Fusion bonded epoxy pipe coating surface should be visually inspected for uniform colour,gloss,free from blisters,fish eyes,pin holes and any others coating defects.
Step-02 DFT of fusion bonded epoxy pipe coating.
FBE powder coating should be applied to the required thickness in a single layer.The DFT of fusion bonded epoxy pipe coating pipe spools and fittings shall be maintained as per client recommendation.The DFT will be measured as per SSPC PA2.DFT of overlap area also we will maintain as per client and manufacture recommendations.
Step-03 Holiday Detection
After completion of fusion bonded epoxy coating,internal coated surface will be inspected for holiday continuity test.Holiday testing should be carried out low voltage wet sponge test in accordance with NACE SP0188 and testing voltage will be 90V.No pinholes are allowed.
Step-04 Adhesion Test
X-Cut Method-Adhesion x-cut test of cured coating surface by using sharp knife blade through coating to the surface of pipe fittings and using a plowing motion,attempting to remove coating from surface as per AWWA C213.The coating will be fully adhered to the pipe and firmly resist the plowing action without brittle chipping.
Pull Off Method-Adhesion of fusion bonded epoxy pipe coating will be checked by pull off method as per ASTM D4541.The coating should withstand a pull off value required as per client recommendation.The adhesion test shall be conducted over the sample plate which has been coated along with pipes and fittings.
Step-05 Hot Water Soak Test
Hot water soak test provides an accelerated assessment of the fusion bonded epoxy coating adhesion to substrate.This test will be conducted as per API RP 5L7.Test specimen plates required as per manufacture and client recommendations,which has been coated along with pipes and fittings.
Step-06 Porosity test
To determine the degree of porosity or voids in the applied coating can be checked by porosity test as per NACE RP 0394.Test specimen plates required as per manufacture and client recommendations,which has been coated along with pipes and fittings.Cool the test specimen to a temperature low enough to allow removal of coating when bent over a sharp radius.Then pry off a piece of coating from the bent specimen and examine the coating for porosity at 30X to 40X magnification.
Fusion bonded epoxy pipe coating,1-Rate the cross section porosity in the fusion bonded epoxy coating by comparing it to the photographs shown in the figure G1 of NACE RP 0394.Rating shall be accepted as per client requirements.
2-Rate the interface porosity in the coating by comparing it to the photographs shown in the figure G2 of NACE RP 0394.Rating shall be accepted as per client requirements.
